Working With Me

I love every chance I get to do this work, and I am unendingly grateful for the opportunity to do so.

The Third Layer model is all about learning our personal rules that help our creativity best operate, so in that vein, here is what can help me create the absolute best experience for your organization or audience.

Successful Engagements Require …

Travel and Logistics

  1. I work and/or travel between 8am and 10pm, unless otherwise agreed to upon in advance.

  2. I require arriving a minimum of one night before any presentation. Outside of North America, I require two nights.

  3. I require 30 days’ notice for an online engagement, 45 days for an in-person engagement in North America, or 60 days in the rest of the world. In the rare case I’m available for a quicker turnaround, I charge a rush fee.

Tech and AV

  1. For online engagements, I require one tech run-through to iron out any potential connection problems.

  2. For online engagements: for more than 20-30 participants, I require a technical lead (provided by either you, or The Third Layer at an additional cost) to take charge of any tech issues, including malfunctions or problems, managing audience participation, creating breakout rooms, etc.

  3. For in-person engagements with a PowerPoint presentation, I will send my presentation in advance. I require a person to set this up and run it.

For In-person Engagements

  1. Due to some physical quirks, I prioritize working with thoughtful collaborators who make space for all voices, including invisible disabilities.

  2. If your project asks for 16-hour days or thrives on stress, I might not be your best match. I don’t require many needs — a reasonable travel schedule, a comfortable chair if needed, time to acclimatize.

  3. I have stopped working with organizations who can’t meet these basic needs. But if you’re flexible, and recognize that meaningful, needle-moving work is worth eschewing 5am flights, let’s talk!

* True story: I invented the Third Layer by accident. With the challenges I’ve had in my life, I needed a way to help me grow my own creative resilience. So I sat down and got to work. Or — as I often need to do to be at my best — I laid down.

Third Layer lesson: When we make space for diverse voices, we create opportunities for ourselves, to express our own creative needs.

I’ve now created 130 (and counting) exercises that have helped me, my coaching clients, my artist and writer friends, or my students face our creative challenges with the Third Layer behind us.
